Dear:  Parents / Guardians

Victory Day  - September 14, 2024 @ 10:30 am, is a morning of education, inspiration and fun on the gridiron for children with special needs. These participants are provided with a full “game day experience”. Any children ages 6-21, with cognitive and/or physical impairments who live within the South Lyon school district are eligible for this fully funded experience. On Victory Day, participants with special needs have the opportunity to play football, cheer on the squad, and march with the band, while their parents, family members, caregivers, and teachers witness the realization of a dream coming true for their child or friend. The event is hosted by the South Lyon High School Football Teams, the SLHS Cheer and Pom Teams and SLHS Marching Band.

In addition, this day is designed to inspire future leaders to pursue selfless, servant leadership. On Victory Day the South Lyon Football Teams, Cheer and Pom Teams, and Marching Band, will give back to their community by providing participants who may never otherwise access these sports a “game day experience” that instills courage and a “can do it attitude” for their future. This experience provides participants a "moment in the sun” as they enjoy an experience of which many have only dreamed.

Victory Day was founded in 2010 by Aaron Segedi, a Trenton teacher and varsity football defensive coordinator. A native of Riverview and a two time cancer survivor, Segedi lives by the philosophy, that building character holds equal importance to teaching young leaders the game winning plays on the football field. Since its launch, Victory Day has received attention from media and athletic programs throughout the state and country. Use the website at the bottom of this flyer to see more about Victory Day, including inspirational video clips. We are proud and excited to be able to offer this program to our youth in South Lyon!

Plans for South Lyon’s annual Victory Day include a special pre-event meeting to prepare participants and parents, refreshments for participants’ families, and a post -Victory Day celebration among SLHS students and participants

LET's Paint the Town RED in South Lyon

During this game we are having a RED OUT to raise awareness and funds in the fight against heart disease.  You Can Help!

Our goal is to have the whole community wearing red on this day to bring awareness to the chilling facts of heart disease…

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Only 13% of women view heart disease as a health threat, even though it’s women's No. 1 killer.
  • Cardiovascular disease (CVD) kills over 480,000 women a year, about one per minute.
  • Coronary heart disease is the No. 1 single killer of women over age 25.
  • 64% of women who died suddenly of coronary heart disease had no previous symptoms.
  • One in 2.6 female deaths are from CVD, compared with one in 30 from breast cancer
